Zion laughed, shaking his head like he couldn’t believe her energy.
“Yeah, yeah… you talking crazy right now,” he said, leaning back in his chair on FaceTime. “You sound drunk for real.”
Junie flopped onto the hotel bed, the phone tilting slightly as she tried to angle it right. Her voice came softer now, still playful but a little slurred at the edges.
“I am a little drunk,” she admitted, like it was a confession she was proud of. “But that don’t change the fact I need you.”
Zion studied her through the screen for a second—her hair a mess, hotel lighting warm against her skin, that familiar stubbornness still shining through even in her tipsy state.
“You don’t see me calling you a hundred times,” she added, pouting. “You the one acting like you got discipline.”
“I do got discipline,” he replied, smirking. “That’s why I told you go to the hotel and behave.”

“Behave?” she echoed. “Zion, I am behaving. I’m just… emotionally expressive right now.”
He laughed again, rubbing his forehead.
“Emotionally expressive,” he repeated. “That’s what we call it now?”
She rolled onto her side, propping her head up with her hand, eyes half-lidded but locked on him like she was trying to pull him through the screen.
“Oh you tryna be Tarzan and I’mma be Jane,” she said suddenly, grinning. “Swinging from your strong branch.”
Zion paused, then burst out laughing.
“Yo—where you even get that from?”
Junie giggled too, clearly pleased with herself.
“I don’t know,” she said, dragging out the words. “It just came to me. Spiritually.”
“Spiritually?” he repeated, still laughing. “You need water and sleep spiritually.”
But even as he joked, his expression softened a bit.
“Go lay down, Junie,” he said more gently. “I’ll call you in a little while when you ain’t… whatever this is.”
She squinted at him.
“You don’t want me?”
“I didn’t say that,” he corrected immediately.
A beat passed.
Her voice dropped, quieter now.
“…You just busy?”
Zion exhaled, the teasing fading from his face.
“I’m not ignoring you,” he said. “I’m just trying to make sure you wake up tomorrow not regretting nothing you doing tonight.”
Junie stared at him for a moment, the energy finally settling.
Then she sighed dramatically and collapsed back into the pillows.
“Fine,” she mumbled. “But if I fall asleep and you don’t call me back, I’m haunting you.”
Zion smiled again, softer this time.
“Yeah, yeah. Go sleep, Jane.”
And right before the call ended, Junie added one last thing under her breath—
“…but Tarzan better still belong to me.”
Then the screen went dark..
Junie froze with her hand still on the door handle.
For a split second she thought her mind was playing tricks on her—like the alcohol hadn’t fully left her system yet. But when she blinked and looked again, he was still there.
