Maybe beauty was never scarce. Maybe some of us just learned to scan rooms for danger before we ever learned to notice sunlight on the kitchen floor, a child’s laugh from another room, or the softness of an ordinary Tuesday.

Read moreIn my personal journey balancing the demanding roles of a student nurse, mom, and dog mom, I've come to truly appreciate the message that "the amount of beautiful things in your life depends on your ability to notice them." Often, the countless responsibilities and stresses could blind us to the subtle, precious moments that make life meaningful. For example, a fleeting smile from a patient or the soft sunlight through the kitchen window can feel like small blessings that fill my day with unexpected warmth. It's easy to get caught up in scanning for danger or issues—as many of us do, especially in healthcare or caregiving roles—but I've learned to pause and savor simple pleasures. The ordinary days, though seemingly unremarkable, are filled with softness and beauty when we tune our awareness to them. Embracing this mindset has helped me nurture gratitude and resilience, enhancing both my well-being and my capacity to care for others. Moreover, being a mom to a lively child and a dog mom adds layers of joyful chaos that challenge and enrich my experience. Children's laughter and the playful antics of my pets are constant reminders of life’s spontaneous joys that brighten the routine. Homesteading activities also bring me closer to nature’s rhythms, deeply rooting me in the present moment. I encourage others in stressful or busy lives to intentionally seek out these moments. Whether it’s a pause to notice sunlight, hear a laugh, or feel the softness of a calm Tuesday, these experiences build a reservoir of positivity. They remind us that beauty isn’t scarce—it’s a perspective we cultivate amid the everyday hustle.
