Pekin is one of those old-school JB spots locals bring you to for a proper Chinese family-style meal. The menu is huge, the portions are made for sharing, and while the suckling pig sounds like the star, some of the side dishes ended up being the real standouts

🐖HALF SUCKLIG PIG 198RM ($63.86) - 3.5/5 ⭐
The meat was fatty, tender, and well-seasoned, but the skin sadly was not as good. It wasn’t crispy enough, felt a little tough, and didn’t crack apart the way good suckling pig skin should.
🍤SALTED EGG PRAWNS 88RM (S$28.38) - 4/5 ⭐
Buttery, rich, and generously coated in gritty salted egg sauce. Savoury with a slight sweetness, while the prawns themselves were juicy and had a great bite.
🌱PARSLEY BEANCURD 15RM (S$4.83) - 4.5/5 ⭐
Unexpectedly one of the better dishes. Deep flavour, not plain at all, and somehow sweet and creamy.
🍜FRIED NOODLE 25RM (S$8.06) - 4/5 ⭐
Well-seasoned with a nice smoky flavour. Cooked well and packed with plenty of toppings, which made it more satisfying than expected.
🍲FISHMAW SOUP 18RM (S$5.81) - 4/5 ⭐
Delicate, comforting, and filled with umami. The fish maw was soft and spongy, soaking up the broth well.
🥬VEGETABLES 28RM (S$9.03) - 3.5/5 ⭐
Basic vegetables, seasoned well, but nothing particularly memorable.
