Custom archway and herringbone floors

Finding the perfect flooring for my bathroom renovation was one of the biggest decisions, and I'm so glad I went with herringbone floors! When I was planning this elegant bathroom space, I knew I wanted something that felt both classic and contemporary. For anyone considering new flooring in their own bathroom, here are a few things I learned during my journey. First, always prioritize water resistance. Bathrooms are damp environments, so naturally, materials like porcelain or ceramic tile are fantastic choices. They're incredibly durable and won't warp or get damaged by splashes. While I adore the look of real wood, I knew it wasn't the best choice for a high-moisture area like a bathroom, so wood-look porcelain was an option I considered before settling on the classic tile. Our custom archway leads into the shower area, and having consistent, water-resistant gray herringbone flooring throughout makes the space feel cohesive and luxurious, really elevating the overall design. Another crucial factor is slip resistance. Wet floors can be dangerous, so looking for tiles with a good coefficient of friction is smart. Many modern tiles come with textured finishes that help prevent slips, and smaller tiles like those in a herringbone pattern tend to offer more grout lines, which can naturally increase traction. Maintenance is also a big one – I wanted something easy to clean, and tile fits the bill perfectly. A quick mop, and it looks brand new. The small grout lines in herringbone patterns can sometimes be a concern for cleaning, but using a good quality, stain-resistant grout made a huge difference in keeping it sparkling. Beyond herringbone, there are so many other fantastic flooring options for bathrooms to consider. Large format tiles can make a small bathroom feel bigger and offer fewer grout lines for easier cleaning, while mosaic tiles provide intricate patterns and excellent inherent slip resistance due to the sheer number of grout joints. Natural stone, like marble or travertine, is incredibly beautiful and lends a luxurious feel, but often requires more maintenance and sealing. Vinyl plank flooring has also come a long way, offering excellent water resistance and realistic wood or stone looks at a more accessible price point. Ultimately, it comes down to balancing your aesthetic vision with the practical needs of the space, your lifestyle, and your budget. I love how our gold-toned shower fixtures pop against the neutral tiles, and the illuminated niche in the shower wall is both practical for storing toiletries and a beautiful design detail that adds a touch of sophistication. Every element, from the flooring to the custom archway and meticulous tile work, truly contributes to that feeling of a custom and elegant home renovation, making my daily routine feel a little more spa-like.
