Fasting!! What will you sacrifice?
There is POWER in fasting.
”Even now — this is the Lord’s declaration — turn to me with all your heart, with fasting, weeping, and mourning.“ -Joel 2:12 CSB
Fasting is such a beautiful way to strip away the unnecessary, the distractions, the desires and lean on God for support, truth, wisdom and clarity.
This act of faith in sacrificing something to draw near God can represent how we choose him over all of the temporary things of today.
If you were to fast today what would you sacrifice? What would you seek from God in addition to his presence? Why haven’t you fasted ?
Fasting is a deeply spiritual practice that allows individuals to reflect on their lives and strengthen their faith. As noted in Joel 2:12-13, fasting encourages a sincere return to God, enabling believers to prioritize their spiritual commitments over worldly distractions. Understanding the reasons behind fasting can deepen its significance in your faith journey. Many choose to fast as a form of worship or as a way to seek clarity and guidance. It’s a time to sacrifice not just food, but also negative habits, distractions, and anything that pulls focus away from a relationship with God. When fasting, one might consider what specific actions, thoughts, or habits they are letting go of during their fast. This sacrifice can be invaluable for cultivating a more profound sense of peace and insight into one’s spiritual life. Additionally, fasting can foster a greater sense of community, as shared experiences and group fasts allow individuals to support one another in their journeys. If you are contemplating fasting, reflect on what you hope to gain from the experience. Is it personal growth, a clearer connection to your faith, or perhaps a deeper understanding of God's presence in your life? It’s essential to approach fasting with intention—asking yourself what truly matters during this sacred time of sacrifice. Engage with others in discussions about your fasting experiences and seek encouragement through prayer, creating a support network within your community.
