Hey everyone! I just wanted to share a deeper dive into my latest original character (OC) art piece that I'm absolutely in love with. It started as just a simple idea, but seeing her come to life through digital art has been such a rewarding journey! Creating an OC from scratch is one of my favorite things to do. For this character, I began with a rough digital sketch, focusing on capturing the overall pose and vibe. I knew I wanted her to have striking purple hair and a somewhat mysterious aura, so a black hood felt like the perfect touch. The initial sketch is always the rawest form, just getting those ideas down before refining. It's like having an 'art base' in your head, waiting to be drawn out. Then came the fun part: adding details! I envisioned her with unique star-shaped ornaments, which I carefully placed on her forehead and in her hair. These little metallic details really make her pop, adding a touch of magic. And of course, that powerful scythe in the full-body digital illustration adds a whole new dimension to her personality – she's not just cute, but also fierce! It's amazing how accessories can tell so much about a character's story without words. If you're looking for an 'art base' or inspiration for your own characters, I often start by sketching out different hairstyles and outfits. Don't be afraid to experiment with bold colors – like my choice of vibrant purple hair! For me, finding an art base often means looking at everyday objects, fashion trends, or even mythological figures and then putting my own twist on it. Sometimes, just a cool color palette or a unique silhouette can be the spark you need to start your own artwork. Making a character 'cute' or generally appealing can come down to a few things. Sometimes it's their expression, other times it's slightly exaggerated features, or even a splash of unexpected color like the purple hair on my OC! I always try to give my characters a balance of charming and cool, which I think this one achieves with her black hooded cloak and sharp scythe contrasting beautifully with the sparkly star-shaped accessories. It's about finding that unique blend that makes them memorable. The process from a preliminary digital sketch to a polished digital illustration is always a learning experience. I use various digital brushes and layering techniques to build up the colors and textures, making sure those metallic star-shaped ornaments shimmer just right. From the initial concept to the final render, every stage is about bringing that character to life. Even when I’m working on a full-body piece, I keep coming back to the initial spark of why I loved the character concept in the first place. I even made a "BONUS PIC" for a full-body view to capture all her details.
