My first crochet market 🧶✨

Doing my first market, I feel like I learned so much. It was a really great way to put my name out there and to show people my work! I was really nervous and felt like during my mock set up I was very underprepared. I did so much better than I thought I would!!! If you are an aspiring small business owner don’t be intimidated by markets! Yes, not all will be a huge sell out, but you get your name out there and you create bonds with new people! Even other business owners! My booth neighbors were so sweet!

Here are 5 things that I learned while doing this market!

1. People LOVE a deal!

I had two sales going, one for my keychains and one for my $8 items. People really liked that idea and inclined people to buy more!

2. Have a cool show piece to bring people in!

I had craftinginglory on ig bearded dragon and stitchedbysass on ig Gomez the Ghost just posted up on my booth. They both brought in a lot of people that just wanted a closer look! Some would even take a business card! I didn’t have either listed for sale, but you could have a price for your ‘show piece’ in case someone wants to purchase!

3. People get excited by mystery bags!

I had 4 mystery bags for sale, and they sold out not even 2 hours into my market! A lot of people liked the idea of getting a random plushie! I know I love a good mystery bag too.

4. A lot of people crochet !

I had a lot of people come up just to talk to me about crochet! I’m planning for my next market to have more crochet artist friendly things to entice other artists to purchase! I even came up with a beginner crochet zine to give others a small guide to starting crochet!

5. You have to reach out to people

I felt like the more I was like “Hello! How are you doing?”, the more people would come over. Some people just wont acknowledge you which is okay, but I’ve had alot of people come up and actually purchase something!

The big thing too is to just have fun with it! I was a little stressed but now that I’ve done it, I know what to expect next time!

Not only does it provide an opportunity to showcase your craft, but it also allows for interaction with other creators and potential customers. Here are some essential tips for your first market: 1. **Engaging Displays**: One key takeaway is to create visually appealing displays. Unique showpieces, like handmade items or eye-catching decor, can attract customers' attention and increase foot traffic to your booth. 2. **Deal Offers**: Promoting special sales or bundles enhances customer interest. Consider offering discounts on popular items or creating themed mystery bags, as they tend to generate intrigue and encourage impulse buying. 3. **Networking**: Building relationships with fellow vendors and customers is invaluable. Collaborations can lead to shared promotional opportunities and customer cross-pollination. 4. **Branded Materials**: Having business cards or flyers readily available encourages connections. Make sure to provide contact info for easy follow-ups after the market. 5. **Follow-up with Customers**: Capturing customer emails during the event can help maintain relationships and foster loyalty, encouraging repeat purchases. By applying these strategies, you can create a thriving environment that not only showcases your crochet talents but also fosters community spirit among crafters and customers alike.
