... Read moreMy 2-day whirlwind trip to Northern Virginia (NOVA) was absolutely packed with delicious food and fun discoveries! I kicked things off with some amazing local eats. One of the absolute standout moments, hands down, was trying the Rice Culture soft serve. Seriously, if you're ever in NOVA, put this on your must-try list! I stumbled upon it and was immediately captivated by its vibrant purple hue, served in a branded 'Rize Culture' cup, topped with a delicate fish-shaped waffle and an Oreo cookie. The flavor was subtly sweet, incredibly creamy, and unlike any soft serve I've had before – a true unique dessert experience that perfectly blended aesthetics with taste. It felt like a little piece of edible art!
Beyond that incredible treat, my culinary journey continued. For a comforting meal, I dived into a hearty bowl of Yi's Traditional Korean Beef Soup. It was exactly what I needed, rich and flavorful, perfectly complemented by the traditional kimchi sides. Another evening, I indulged in the delights of Tiger Dumpling, where I enjoyed an assortment of perfectly steamed and fried dumplings alongside some savory noodles. The variety was fantastic, making it a great spot for sharing or trying a bit of everything.
It wasn't all about exotic flavors, though. I also found myself at Kramer's, a charming spot that offered a fantastic sandwich overflowing with cheese and onions, served with a classic side of fries. What made Kramer's even more special, for me, was discovering Kramer's Books right next door – a bustling bookstore filled with endless shelves and even a rainbow flag, creating such a welcoming atmosphere. I could have spent hours browsing there!
For a unique experience, I had to visit the Mount Purrnon Cat Cafe. As a huge cat lover, getting to enjoy a coffee surrounded by adorable, adoptable cats was pure bliss. It’s such a clever concept and a wonderfully relaxing break from sightseeing. And speaking of sightseeing, a visit to Great Falls, Maryland, was breathtaking. Even though it's technically in Maryland, it's so close to NOVA and offers incredible views of the powerful Potomac River rapids. The sheer force of nature there is mesmerizing.
My trip also included a visit to a cozy spot for a more classic pub experience. The Old Brogue Irish Pub offered a warm, inviting atmosphere, and I enjoyed a delicious pasta dish with spinach and chicken – a surprisingly delightful find in an Irish pub! And, of course, no foodie adventure is complete without a bubble tea stop. Pekoe delivered with a range of refreshing drinks, including one with a cool yin-yang lid design.
Overall, my 2 days in NOVA were a fantastic blend of delicious food, unique experiences, and beautiful sights. From the unforgettable Rice Culture soft serve to exploring charming bookstores and breathtaking natural wonders, Northern Virginia truly has something for everyone. I'm already planning my next trip back to explore even more!
