Switzerland Day 1
2025 Switzerland Trip!
Follow for a breakdown of the itinerary we followed based on what one of my family members planned! We were there for a total of 8 days with two additional days for traveling. We had visited multiple towns and cities throughout our time here, starting with our first day in Zurich. Here are some ideas of what you can do in Zurich!
*I recommend getting the Swiss travel pass! It’s expensive but it allows you to get in most public transport and certain museums, tourist places, and you can get discounts on certain rides (like up to 50% the original cost) if you mention you have the pass!

One of the absolute highlights of our Day 1 in Zurich was diving into the culinary scene, especially our stop at Restaurant Zeughauskeller Zürich. Stepping inside felt like a journey back in time; it's housed in an old armory, and the atmosphere is just buzzing! For anyone searching for an authentic Swiss dining experience, this place is a must. We indulged in their famous sausages and giant pretzels, perfectly washed down with some local beer. It’s incredibly popular, so be prepared for a lively crowd, but the service is surprisingly efficient despite the hustle. It’s truly a memorable spot for hearty traditional food right in the city center. You really get a sense of history and local culture there, making it an essential part of any Zurich itinerary. Navigating Zurich was a breeze, largely thanks to its fantastic public transport system, especially the trams. The Swiss Travel Pass was a complete lifesaver, allowing us unlimited rides. We often found ourselves around the HB station (Zurich's main train station), which is a huge hub for trams. For instance, getting to our hotel (ibis Styles Zurich City Center) from the station was just a short tram ride, and the Haldenegg tram stop was super convenient. I even saw a tram labeled "10 Bahnhofplatz/HB" which just shows how well-connected everything is! If you're wondering how to get around, grab a Zurich tram map – they're readily available online or at any major station. It makes exploring places like the Swiss National Museum (Landesmuseum) in Zurich incredibly easy without worrying about parking or traffic. Just hop on and off as you please! When people ask what makes Zurich one of the best places to visit in Switzerland, I always highlight its unique blend of urban sophistication and natural beauty. Our Zurich city walk on Day 1 was perfect for soaking this in. We started at the historic Lindenhof hill, offering panoramic views of the Limmat River and the old town – definitely a picturesque moment. Wandering through Augustinergasse with its colorful houses, seeing the intricate stained glass at Fraumunster, and marveling at the twin towers of the Zurich Cathedral really brought the city's rich history to life. Even just strolling along Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich’s famous shopping street, felt vibrant. It’s a city that effortlessly combines historical landmarks with modern charm, making it a perfect starting point for any Swiss adventure. The accessibility to all these sights, often just a short walk or tram ride apart, is what makes Zurich so enjoyable and efficient to explore.
