📚🖤ARC Review & Book Recommendation🖤📚
The Ever King is the first book in L.J. Andrews’s The Ever Seas Series. This book is actually a rerelease, and I regret not picking up this book sooner. After enjoying Broken Souls and Bones earlier this year, I just knew I would love The Ever King. If you’re a longtime fan of Paranormal Romance like me, this book will appeal to you. I’m firmly in my Fantasy Romance/Romantasy Era, and I’m not leaving anytime soon.
One thing I enjoy is how an author can hook me right away, and L.J. Andrews does just that by starting her book with a bang. The immersive world, compelling characters, and vivid setting captured my attention. I was especially pleased that the story is told in Dual POV, letting me enjoy both the FMC’s and MMC’s POVs. The MMC stands out as a morally grey character, my favorite kind, because he’s willing to burn the world for the FMC, even though he shouldn’t have feelings for her because she’s his enemy’s daughter.
My Full ARC Review of the book is on my Blog, Goodreads, and StoryGraph.

As a long-time fan of fantasy romance, I'm always on the hunt for my next obsession, and let me tell you, L.J. Andrews' 'The Ever King' absolutely delivered! Before I even cracked open the digital pages, the book cover itself caught my eye. The imagery of a sword, water, and those striking green and gold accents perfectly hinted at the dark, enchanting world I was about to dive into. It’s got that epic fantasy feel with a touch of brooding mystery, which is exactly what I look for. Beyond the visuals, the snippets and quotes often found on the cover, like 'She was never theirs anyway. Not really. From the moment the songbird tried to appeal to a serpent, she was mine,' and 'You're not my hero, Bloodsinger. You're my beautiful monster,' truly foreshadowed the intense, captivating dynamic between the characters. These lines promised a deeply emotional and morally complex story, and they absolutely delivered. It’s not just a pretty cover; it’s a promise of the adventure within. 'The Ever King' isn't just a standalone marvel; it kicks off 'The Ever Seas Series,' and I'm already eagerly anticipating what comes next. What I love about diving into a new series like this is the potential for expansive world-building and character development. Knowing this is just the beginning makes the journey feel even grander. L.J. Andrews has laid such a rich foundation with this first installment, introducing intriguing lore and conflicts that I can't wait to see unfold across future books. It’s clear this series has the potential to become a staple in the dark fantasy romance genre. Now, let's talk about the tropes, because 'The Ever King' is basically a masterclass in beloved dark fantasy romance elements. The 'Enemies to Lovers' arc here is incredibly well-executed, building delicious tension and emotional stakes that kept me glued to the story. It’s not a rushed transition; you truly feel the push and pull, the internal conflict, and the undeniable chemistry. Complementing this is the 'Forced Proximity,' which acts as a powerful catalyst, forcing our main characters to confront their preconceived notions and grow closer against their will. This trope, when done right, creates so many opportunities for intense interactions and vulnerable moments, and L.J. Andrews absolutely nails it. And for those who appreciate a slow burn – you are in for a treat! The emotional and romantic development takes its time, simmering perfectly until the payoff is incredibly satisfying. It’s not about instant gratification but about earning those tender, powerful moments. Finally, the 'Touch Her And I’ll ☠️ You' trope is present in full force, showcasing a protective, possessive male lead who, despite his morally grey nature, is fiercely devoted to the female protagonist. This level of devotion, even from a 'beautiful monster,' is incredibly appealing and adds another layer of intensity to their relationship. The author's ability to weave these tropes together seamlessly, making them feel fresh and integral to the plot, is what makes 'The Ever King' such a compelling read for me and, I believe, for any fan of the genre.
