It’s been a while since I posted to my Lemon8 account, since I’ve been dealing with migraines lately due to spring weather, but I had to post about this book.
Heir of Ruin is the first book in Eden Summers’s The Cavallo Brothers Series, a spin-off from her Hunting Her Series. From the moment I began Raffael Cavallo’s story, I was immediately intrigued by his first encounter with Isla Cross.
The slow-burn romance between Raffael and Isla drove me crazy at times, but it was well worth it once the two realized their steamy connection. The ongoing suspense and danger, including threats from characters linked to Raffael’s father, keep the stakes high, which kept me reading the book.
If you enjoy high-stakes mafia romance, power imbalances, and the ‘touch her and die’ trope, you’ll enjoy Raffael and Isla’s story in Heir of Ruin.

(Note: Raffael has been added to my long list of book boyfriends that I’ve collected throughout the years. I swear every hero Eden Summers writes ends up there.)
... Read moreAs a longtime fan of mafia romance novels, I can attest that 'Heir of Ruin' by Eden Summers stands out for its compelling blend of intense romance and suspenseful intrigue. The forced proximity between Raffael and Isla sparks a slow-burn relationship that's both frustrating and addictive, mirroring real emotions when connecting with someone despite risks and dangers.
What truly captivated me was the dynamic power imbalance that Eden expertly crafts, especially with the constant looming threat from Raffael’s father’s enemies. This high-stakes environment adds tension and urgency, elevating the romance beyond mere attraction to a life-or-death experience. It reminds me of why I enjoy the 'touch her and die' trope—where the hero’s fierce protectiveness fuels both passion and conflict.
Reading this book was also a fitting escape during times when I faced my own challenges, much like struggling with migraines in shifting seasons. The immersive world Eden Summers builds, along with the vivid emotions of her characters, helped me relax and stay engrossed. If you enjoy slow-burn mafia romances with strong characters, complex relationships, and plenty of suspense, 'Heir of Ruin' is a must-read. Plus, as part of The Cavallo Brothers series, it promises exciting expansions on this dangerous, passionate world.
