... Read moreOkay, friends, let's dive deeper into why this 10-10-10 hosting rule has been an absolute game-changer for me! When I first heard about it, I was skeptical. Could just 30 minutes really make a difference? Turns out, yes, it’s a total lifesaver for feeling "organized and calm when hosting." The First 10: Tidy Up & Clean Everything! This isn't about deep cleaning, it's about making your space look guest-ready. I used to panic and try to clean every corner, but now I know better. In these 10 minutes, I focus on high-impact areas: Entryway: Clear shoes, coats, and mail. A welcoming first impression is key! Living Area: Fluff pillows, fold throws, quickly put away clutter. I’m thinking magazines, remotes, kids' toys – anything that makes the room feel messy. Kitchen: Wipe down countertops, quickly clean the sink, and yes, a quick wipe of the stovetop, just like the image shows (no need for a full scrub of my stainless steel appliances or wooden cabinets, just a quick polish to make them sparkle!). Empty the dishwasher if possible, or at least load dirty dishes out of sight. Bathroom: A quick swish of the toilet, wipe down the sink, fresh hand towel, and make sure there's enough toilet paper. These small touches make a huge difference! The goal is to create an illusion of calm order, not perfection. The Second 10: Prep All Food & Drinks! This is where pre-planning truly shines. You can’t cook a gourmet meal in 10 minutes, but you can certainly get things ready for serving. Drinks: Get ice out, set up glasses, and have beverages chilling or poured. I love having water with lemon slices ready to go. Snacks: Arrange pre-made appetizers on platters. Think charcuterie boards (pre-cut cheeses and meats), a bowl of olives, or heating up something simple like those delicious Roasted Chicken, Garlic & Herb Ravioli from Good & Gather that I love – they're quick and always a hit! Table Setting: Lay out plates, cutlery, and napkins. If you're doing a buffet, make sure serving spoons are ready. The trick here is to have everything either ready-to-eat or requiring minimal assembly. It’s all about presentation and accessibility. The Final 10: Relax Before Guests Arrive! This is, hands down, the most crucial 10 minutes. It's dedicated to you! I used to be a frantic mess right up until the doorbell rang, and it made me feel exhausted before the party even started. Now, I make myself step away. Change into your party outfit: Even if it's just a fresh top, it helps you transition. Deep breaths: Take a moment to just *be*. I might sit on the couch with my cat for a few minutes, just like in the picture, stroking her fur, letting my mind clear. It’s amazing how calming this can be. Review your playlist: Make sure the music is queued up. Light a candle: Add to the ambiance. This time isn't just about physical rest; it's about mental preparation. It allows you to greet your guests with a genuine smile, feeling present and ready to enjoy their company, rather than still mentally running through a checklist. Adopting the 10-10-10 rule has truly transformed my hosting experience from stressful to joyful. It empowers me to be a relaxed and engaged host, which ultimately makes for a much better time for everyone involved! Give it a try, and let me know how it works for your next gathering!
