Google announces Android Source Code distribution cuts
Google announces reducing Android Source Code distribution to two times a year
The Source Code or the Original Code is very important to developers because the code describes the entire function of the software. It allows developers to modify, build, study to create new things easily. This news may upset Android developers.
According to a report by the website, Developer Tech, Google, the developer of the Android operating system, has announced a policy change to release Android Source Code under the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) from quarterly or 4 releases per year to only 2 releases per year in every 2nd quarter and 4th quarter to meet the development policy on a single stable major branch or Trunk Stable Development Model.
This change has been called a huge controversy in the developer industry, especially the group of Android developers, modified versions (Custom ROMs) and split versions (Fork) that rely heavily on the original code to develop. Not only the developers in these two groups, even the Android application developers who rely on the original code to test compatibility between the target version of Android and the application, have to inevitably modify their plans and procedures in accordance with the new Google policy.
In contrast to the original code release policy, Google has announced that Security Update will be released to developers more often so that developers can manage the development of seamless patches, leading to a better end-user security.
