Kaspersky found over ninety thousand malware attacks coming from fake AI tools.
According to a report by the Manila Standard website, Kaspersky, a famous anti-Virus software developer, revealed that more than 92,000 malware attacks from January to May this year were attributed to well-known AI tool applications, with more than 49% claiming to be ChatGPT applications, which is called almost half of all tools, while Claude and Gemini had an equal number of impersonations, 18% each. The report also indicates that the research team investigated samples of malware that lurked into fake AI applications. It covers over 15,000 examples of OpenClaw-based AI Agents, which have been exposed to a variety of malware including Banking Trojan, Exploit, Spyware, and Loader. Kaspersky presented this report at the Kaspersky HORIZONS meeting on May 18 in Rome, Italy.
In addition to the above report, in May, the Global Research and Analysis Team (GReAT) from the same company detected a malware distribution campaign claiming to be the famous AI tool Claude, which aims to tackle a group of Windows, Linux, and macOS users. If the victim believes that the tool is installed, it will result in long-standing remote access to the victim's system. According to that investigation, the research team found that there is a group of prominent hackers, Silver Fox, behind the campaign.
