When you get to photograph one of your best friends weddings you know it’s going to be a good day. I met Emma through tiktok back in 2022. She saw one of my videos and ended up hiring me to photograph her and Nilay’s Brooklyn NY Rooftop Wedding. Since our first video chat to discuss her wedding we’ve been texting nonstop. When we met to do their engagement session in Big Sur it solidified our friendship, even when I felt awful from flying in. I even went to her bachelorette party a few months later. I knew their wedding would end up as one of my favorites because she’s such a good friend, but it was also stunningly beautiful.

Their wedding was on a rooftop in Brooklyn that overlooked Manhattan. They decided to have their ceremony right at sunset so they said their vows in some of my favorite light, and everything was golden and magnificent. They also hired Doan Ly for their florals, and they created these beautiful floral towers to surround them. Not to mention their table scapes. Their catering was also some of the best food I’ve had at a wedding. Sharon (their planner) perfectly pulled the entire day together and made sure everything ran smoothly for us.

Today, almost three years later, Emma is one of my sons Aunties. We’ve gotten even closer and I love cheering her on for all of her new adventures as she becomes a fashion designer and sourdough bread professional. I can only hope that we continue to look at her wedding photos remembering how lovely the day was and it was that which brought us together.

The venue’s panoramic view of Manhattan combined with the magical golden hour light offered an intimate yet breathtaking backdrop for their vows. Wedding photography during sunset enables capturing vibrant, warm tones that enhance the romantic atmosphere and bring out natural skin tones and textures. This makes the moments truly timeless. The use of floral towers by designer Doan Ly surrounding the couple created a majestic and elegant setting. Floral installations like these not only frame the couple beautifully but also add architectural interest and coordinate cohesively with other wedding elements such as table scapes. This level of detail contributes to the overall aesthetic storytelling that photographers aim to capture. Another crucial aspect that elevates a wedding experience is the seamless collaboration between different vendors. The planner Sharon ensured smooth coordination, which is vital for the photography team to catch candid and joyful moments without logistical interruptions. Additionally, excellent catering complements the celebration and often contributes to guests’ memories. From a personal perspective, documenting Emma and Nilay’s wedding was more than just a job; it strengthened a friendship initiated via social media and blossomed through shared life moments like engagement shoots and bachelorette parties. These authentic connections often translate into relaxed posing and genuine emotion in photos. For couples planning a rooftop wedding in NYC, considering the timing of the ceremony to coincide with sunset can provide photographers with unparalleled natural lighting conditions. Engaging talented professionals like floral designer Doan Ly and experienced planners like Sharon ensures that both visual and operational elements meet high standards. Ultimately, revisiting these photos over the years will not only revive memories of a radiant and heartfelt day but also celebrate the bonds built through shared experiences during the wedding journey, transforming simple images into cherished family heirlooms.
