University of Chicago Wedding

There’s something magnetic about a University Club of Chicago wedding—the way history, architecture, and artistry meet in a single space. Built in 1887 by a group of university alumni, the venue stands as one of Chicago’s most storied landmarks. Its neo-Gothic details—vaulted ceilings, carved oak beams, and expansive stained-glass windows—create a setting that feels both timeless and cinematic.

Against this classic backdrop, the couple designed a celebration that was anything but traditional. The ballroom bloomed with color—giant floating installations suspended from the ceiling. Below them, a glossy pink dance floor became the centerpiece of the night, radiating joy and setting the tone for an evening of bold, beautiful contrast.

The bride wore a sculptural Vivienne Westwood gown, a perfect blend of structure and softness. Its asymmetrical draping and corseted bodice added an avant-garde touch to the romantic setting, while the groom kept to a timeless black tux—understated, refined, and completely in tune with the venue’s elegance. Together, they brought a fresh energy to the storied halls of the University Club.

Every corner of this day felt intentional: modern art layered over history, fashion meeting florals, and light dancing across century-old windows. This University Club of Chicago wedding was proof that heritage spaces can hold modern magic—and that color, when done fearlessly, can feel every bit as elegant as white.

... Read moreAfter experiencing such a truly unique University Club of Chicago wedding, I've had so many friends ask me how we pulled off such a creative and modern celebration in such a historic setting! It really comes down to infusing your personality into every detail, and I'd love to share some thoughts on how you can create your own unforgettable day. Choosing a venue like the University Club of Chicago in Streeterville isn't just about its stunning neo-Gothic architecture and rich history; it's also about seeing the potential for contrast. While the vaulted ceilings and carved oak beams provide a timeless backdrop, we saw it as an incredible canvas for something truly different. Don't be afraid to challenge tradition! Think about how bold pops of color, like our vibrant pink dance floor, can create an unexpected focal point, or how dramatic floating installations can transform the grand ballroom without detracting from its original beauty. Working with a visionary decor team, like Revel Decor, was key to bringing those 'creative wedding ideas' to life. They understood how to layer modern artistry over the existing grandeur. When it came to fashion, we really wanted our attire to reflect our personalities. For my dress, I fell in love with a Vivienne Westwood gown – its sculptural design, intricate beading, and sequin details felt so avant-garde and perfectly captured the blend of structure and softness I was looking for. Don't shy away from a dress that truly speaks to you, whether it's a sequined wedding gown, unique draping, or even a bold color. And for those considering a pop of color, my pink hair truly became a signature part of my look, peeking through my sheer veil in those intimate close-ups. It tied everything together with a personalized, joyful touch! My groom, on the other hand, opted for a classic yet refined black velvet tuxedo and bow tie, which perfectly complemented the elegance of the venue while allowing my look to truly shine. The contrast was intentional and beautiful, showing how classic choices can still feel incredibly personal and sophisticated. And don't forget the details! Incorporating elements like sheer gloves or sheer fabric for dramatic photos can add so much artistry to your wedding day memories. Some of my favorite shots are the black and white images that capture the movement of the fabric and the emotion of the moment, adding a timeless, artistic flair to our album. The surrounding Streeterville area also offers fantastic opportunities for pre-wedding photos or a quick stroll for guests, adding another layer to the day's experience and making it truly a Chicago affair. Ultimately, a University Club of Chicago wedding can be so much more than just a beautiful event. It's an opportunity to tell your unique story, blending history with your own modern magic. Don't be afraid to be bold, be creative, and most importantly, be yourselves, letting every choice reflect the love and joy you share!
