Soft Homemade Flour Tortillas- only 4 ingredients

Taco night just hits different when the tortillas are homemade.

It’s just flour, salt, oil, and water… but somehow it makes dinner feel slower, warmer, and a little more special. These are soft, foldable, and perfect for 8-inch tacos. And once you make them from scratch, it’s really hard to go back.

Ingredients:

• 1½ cups all-purpose flour

• 1 teaspoon salt

• ¼ cup oil

• ½ cup boiling water

Instructions:

1. In a bowl, mix the flour, salt, and oil. Use your fingers to crumble it together until combined.

2. Slowly add the boiling water and mix until a dough forms.

3. Turn the dough out onto the counter and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.

4. Form into a ball, cover, and let rest for 15 minutes.

5. Divide into 8 equal pieces (perfect size for 8-inch tacos). Roll each piece into a ball and gently flatten with your hand.

6. Lightly flour your counter and the top of the dough. Roll out, turning the dough 180° after each roll, until thin.

7. Heat on a clean pan over medium heat for 20–30 seconds per side, until bubbles form and light golden spots appear.

Nothing fancy. Just simple ingredients feeding my family well. 🤍

... Read moreMaking homemade flour tortillas is a game changer for any taco night, adding a warmth and freshness that store-bought options just can't match. From my personal experience, the magic of this recipe lies in its simplicity—only four ingredients, yet it yields soft and pliable tortillas every time. Boiling water is a key step, as it helps soften the dough quickly, making it easier to knead and roll out. One tip I learned is to let the dough rest covered for at least 15 minutes after kneading. This resting period allows the gluten to relax, preventing tough tortillas and helping them cook evenly. Rolling the dough evenly to a thin, round shape is essential for foldability, which makes these tortillas perfect for holding all your favorite taco fillings. When cooking, a hot, clean pan is crucial. Heating each side for about 20–30 seconds until bubbles and golden spots appear results in that authentic homemade texture and flavor you want. If you find your tortillas are sticking, lightly flouring the surface and your rolling pin can help. Beyond tacos, these homemade tortillas are versatile—they can be used for quesadillas, wraps, or even as a base for mini pizzas. Plus, knowing exactly what's in your food adds a comforting, wholesome feel to every meal. Give it a try; once you start making these soft homemade flour tortillas, you’ll never want to go back to the packaged ones again.
