managing time as commuter student
as a 4th year music student that spends almost 4 hours on commute every day, here are some of my tips managing your time wisely:
- pack your backpack and outfit the night before!
- use a tracker to set deadlines, so you can see what’s coming up
- go to bed early, so that you can do most of your tasks on the bus instead of sleeping!
- if you have 2 hour gaps in between classes, use the time wisely - have a study plan, recap the concepts you learned the class before, or even take 10 minute nap time if needed!
- you’re most likely tired by the time you’re back home, use those times for relax.

Managing time effectively as a commuter student can be challenging yet rewarding. For students who spend several hours commuting daily, the key is to utilize that time productively. One proven approach is to prepare your backpack and outfit the night before, which streamlines your morning routine and reduces stress. Additionally, employing a digital tracker or planner can help set clear deadlines and keep you organized. Transform your commute into an opportunity for learning by reviewing notes or studying for upcoming exams while on the bus or train. Instead of wasting these hours, consider creating concise study materials or flashcards to reinforce concepts. Furthermore, if there are gaps between your classes, allocate this time wisely. This can be an excellent opportunity for a power nap or to recap what you learned previously, ensuring you're always prepared for your next lecture. Lastly, remember that downtime is crucial for both mental health and academic success. Use evenings to unwind after a hectic day, which can enhance your focus for the following day's tasks. In summary, with a bit of planning and strategic thinking, commuter students can manage their time effectively and thrive academically.
