ways I study for education courses
as a music ed student doing the ultra-intensive program, my courseworks consists of a whole lot of readings and unwinding philosophical topics that my profs zoomed through quickly in class…and because it’s a lot, here are some of the things I do for self-study
🧠 annotate on lecture slides if possible
if your profs are kind enough to have slides uploaded before class, do go through them and only add notes based on what your prof said in class to help with memory retention for me, I find having the slides ready before-hand really saves me from constantly needing to multi-task during class, so I can focus on what my prof is saying, and only write the things that came up during lecture that I find important
📖 reading aloud the readings
(only do so when you’re alone and not bother other people) if you’re like me who also has a hard time absorbing the content I read, read it aloud! sometimes you just need to actually hear the words pronounced one by one for things to make sense…and doing so has helped me a lot
🏫 study in groups
it’s also about finding the right people to study with you, but studying with peers has helped me a lot in discovering what I didn’t know, so I make a note of that and then make sure to cover that topic during my next solo-study session. this means I make sure I organize group studies 2 days before quizzes so I still have time to recap for myself!
