Pros & Cons of Quitting Birth Control 😃😰💊❓

I went off hormonal birth control this past December and oh man, its been a whirlwind. The journey has definitely had some rough patches, but overall, it’s been a fantastic learning experience for me.

Here’s a recap of my experience:

🫶🏼What I’ve LOVED🫶🏼————————————

💗GOODBYE BRAIN FOG: Oh man. I didn’t even REALIZE I had brain fog until I went off birth control. I can’t really explain it, but I definitely am able to think more clearly. It feels like I de-zombified.

💗Higher libido: Now that I think about it… having a lower libido on birth control is also… a form of birth control LOL

💗Better understanding of my cycle and more in tune with my body: Since going off, I’ve learned a lot more about hormones and how they affect me! In addition, I’m way better at tracking my cycle since I used to skip my period all the time on BC

💗More open convos with my partner about practicing safe sex and cycle education: My boyfriend now knows what part of my cycle I’m at and we avoid sexy time during high fertility periods!!

❌Things that aren’t so great lol❌———————

😬Needing to find a different way of contraception: this one is the most obvious LOL

😬Post birth control acne: when I first went off, my skin and hair was SOO oily! After 3 months, everything settled back down. But I have a lot more small pimples during PMS

😬No control over my period: luckily I don’t struggle with bad periods so this is ok!

Ultimately, going off birth control has been the right decision for me! But it might not be the right decision for everyone. I’m making this post to simply share my experience with how things have gone the past 6 months for anyone considering stopping hormonal birth control!

... Read moreQuitting birth control can be a transformative decision for many women, offering a chance to reconnect with their bodies and understand their natural cycles better. Many individuals report a significant decrease in brain fog, which is often an overlooked side effect of hormonal contraceptives. As body awareness increases, users may find themselves more attuned to their hormonal fluctuations, leading to improved communication about reproductive health with partners. However, it’s important to address the challenges that might arise. Post-birth control acne is a common complaint due to hormonal adjustments, and many need to find alternative contraceptive methods, which can introduce anxiety or uncertainty. Tracking cycles may initially become overwhelming, especially for those who previously relied on hormonal control without tracking their natural rhythm. Moreover, understanding hormonal health varies greatly among individuals. Engaging in conversations around cycle health not only empowers women but fosters stronger partnerships rooted in mutual awareness and respect for reproductive choices. Ultimately, each woman's experience will differ, making it essential to research, consult healthcare professionals, and reflect personally before making significant lifestyle changes.

I used the BC patches and they are good for me! I’ve been on BC for over 6 years now and have been off of it since May. I just had a miscarriage and I believe part of it was because I was on it for so long 🙏🏼 Definitely pros & cons but overall do what helps YOUR body best! 💗
