Transform Your Apple Scraps Into Homemade Vinegar! 🍎✨

Don’t toss those apple peels and cores! Here’s a simple and rewarding way to turn kitchen leftovers into tangy, homemade apple scrap vinegar:

What You’ll Need:

• Apple scraps (peels, cores, etc.)

• Water

• Sugar (1 tablespoon per cup of water)

• A clean glass jar

• A breathable cover (like cheesecloth)

• Rubber band

How to Make It:

1. Fill Your Jar: Place your apple scraps into a clean glass jar, leaving about 1-2 inches of space at the top.

2. Mix the Water & Sugar: Dissolve 1 tablespoon of sugar into each cup of water. Pour the mixture over the apple scraps until they’re fully submerged.

3. Cover and Secure: Cover the jar with cheesecloth or a coffee filter and secure it with a rubber band. This keeps out dust while allowing air to flow.

4. Fermentation Time: Let the jar sit at room temperature in a dark place for about 2-3 weeks. Stir daily to prevent mold.

5. Strain It: After 2-3 weeks, strain out the apple scraps and return the liquid to the jar. Cover again and let it ferment for another 2-4 weeks, stirring occasionally.

6. Check for Tang: Taste your vinegar after 4 weeks. When it’s tangy enough for your liking, transfer it to a bottle with a lid.

I usually go for half-gallon or quart-sized glass jars, depending on how many apple peels and cores I've collected. Make sure your jars are sparkling clean – sometimes I even run mine through a quick sanitizing cycle in the dishwasher for extra peace of mind.
