I Finally Fixed My Pull-Ups (and felt my back for real)
I used to struggle with pull-ups and feel EVERYTHING except my back 😅
What changed:
✔️ Chest up (don’t round forward)
✔️ Core tight (no swinging)
✔️ Pull with elbows, not hands
Game changer. Literally felt my lats activate for the first time 🔥
If you’re stuck on pull-ups, try this and save it for your next workout 💛
When I first started doing pull-ups, I always felt like I was just moving my arms and shoulders without fully engaging my back muscles. It was frustrating because pull-ups are supposed to target the lats, yet I never felt that 'burn' or connection there. After some trial and error, I realized the key was focusing on my form rather than just counting reps. The three main adjustments I made were keeping my chest up to avoid rounding my shoulders forward, tightening my core to prevent swinging, and most critically, pulling with my elbows instead of just relying on my hands. Pulling with the elbows helps engage the back muscles more directly, which is something I hadn’t consciously done before. This change was a game changer—I actually felt my lats activate clearly for the first time. It also made the movement feel smoother and more controlled. In addition to these tips, I found warming up the scapular muscles with some light scapular pull-ups and band pull-aparts before my workout improved my muscle engagement further. If you’re struggling like I was, try breaking down your pull-ups and focusing on these form cues. You might find it helps you finally feel the work in your back, making your workouts more effective and rewarding. It’s a small shift that can make a big difference in your pull-up progress.
