14 August 2024, our bundle of joy
Woke up at 7:50am, wanting to use the washroom but the moment I stood up, I felt a gush of fluid coming out. Oh shit, delivery is around the corner! Gave Hadi a nudge to wake him up. Fella kept asking if it was really my water bag or my uncontrollable pee 😂. Called NUH, gave all the necessary information, and we left the house within 20 minutes! Fast game!
Got wheeled up to the delivery suite while Hadi looked for food. I was still 2 cm dilated when the medical staff checked— no change since 12 August 2024! Crazy. The waiting game began! Hadi was playing Pokemon while I was on the bed nervously waiting for regular contractions to start. It was still 5 to 15 minutes apart, lasting about 30 seconds. Still tolerable, but my back was breaking!
They checked my cervix again before sending me to the ward. 3 cm dilated!!! Shit got real when I was in the room. Contractions became regular and more painful, which made me realize that I was in active labor. I experienced other signs of labor, which were nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Imagine being in the toilet most of the time vomiting while pooping and being in so much pain. I thought I was going to die, I swear. Walked around the room and cried like crazy; nothing worked. My head was screaming for an epidural! Disappointed, but gave in to the epidural. It was a blessing in disguise, I guess. Sigh.
Went back down to the delivery suite at 2:30pm, but I had to wait. Oh, gas was freaking useless. Or maybe I wasn’t doing it right. The anesthesiologist came at 3:30pm to administer the epidural on me. Numb. I couldn’t feel anything. Fell asleep for a while, and that was the best nap ever! It was 5:45pm when my gynecologist came to check on me. She checked my cervix and said, “We have to go, Mummy; her head is right there.” Oh shit! I looked at Hadi, and tears started rolling down my cheeks. This is it; we’re so close to meeting our precious girl. 🥹
With a few pushes and a little assistance pressing on my stomach, Bubz came out at 6:15pm. I couldn’t stop crying. I thank Allah for keeping us safe. I thank Allah for Hadihaq. I thank Allah for our perfect little daughter called Nur Hayra Alena. So many things to be thankful for.
