I didn’t get to do my special technique😒#happynewyears2025 #newyearsstream #staysafe
Hey fellow Kombatants! Ever had those moments where you just couldn't land that perfect special move, or felt like you were constantly getting outplayed? Trust me, I've been there! My early Mortal Kombat sessions often ended with me lamenting, "I didn’t get to do my special technique😒," just like the original post. It’s frustrating when you know what you want to do, but the execution isn't there, or you simply don't know the best strategy to win more fights in Mortal Kombat 1 or Mortal Kombat 11. The good news is, I've learned a ton along the way, and I want to share some essential tips and tactics that have helped me turn the tide and start winning more consistently. This isn't about becoming a pro overnight, but about understanding the fundamentals and applying them smartly. 1. Master Your Special Moves in Practice Mode This might sound obvious, but it's crucial. Don't just jump into online matches hoping to "get" your special moves. Head straight to the practice mode! Pick your main character and spend time in the move list. Practice each special move until you can execute it consistently without looking at the commands. Pay attention to the timing – some moves require precise inputs. I've found that drilling moves 10-20 times in a row without failure builds the muscle memory you need under pressure. This is how you ensure you do get to do your special technique! 2. Learn Basic Combos and When to Use Them Special moves are great, but chaining them into combos is what truly elevates your game. Start with simple two- or three-hit combos that lead into a special move. For instance, a basic string followed by a projectile or an uppercut. Understanding your character's combo potential and practicing these basic strings will allow you to maximize your damage output when you find an opening. Don't try to learn every complex combo at once; build up gradually. What works for me is picking one or two reliable combos and perfecting them before adding more to my arsenal. 3. Understanding Spacing and Zoning One of the biggest game-changers for me was learning about spacing. This means understanding the distance between you and your opponent. Some characters excel at close-range brawling, while others dominate from a distance with projectiles (zoning). If you're playing a zoner, keep your opponent away with attacks like Sub-Zero's ice ball or Liu Kang's fireballs. If you're a brawler, find ways to close the gap safely. For example, knowing when to dash in or use a quick advancing attack can make all the difference. Always be thinking about where you want your opponent to be. 4. Blocking and Punishing: Your Defensive Pillars Defense is just as important as offense. Blocking correctly can save you from huge damage. Remember the difference between high, mid, and low attacks, and adjust your block accordingly (hold back for high/mid, hold down-back for low). But blocking isn't enough; you need to punish. After your opponent finishes a string of attacks that you've blocked, there's often a small window where they are vulnerable. This is your chance to launch your own quick combo or special move. Mastering this "block and punish" game will significantly improve your win rate. 5. Character-Specific Knowledge & Counter Strategies Every character in Mortal Kombat 1 and Mortal Kombat 11 has unique strengths and weaknesses. It's impossible to know every matchup perfectly, but having general strategies helps. For instance, facing a character like Scorpion can be tough with his teleport and high-damage strings. I learned that a timely "SCORMON Kounter" often involves anticipating his teleport and hitting him as he reappears or blocking his Hellport and punishing. Some moves, like a well-timed "Dearhly Sting" from certain characters, can catch you off guard, so understanding common strong attacks and how to mitigate them is key. Similarly, knowing when to apply pressure with a "Blast Chilled" ability (if your character has one) can freeze an opponent and open them up for a combo. Always try to observe your opponent's patterns and adapt your tactics. Playing Mortal Kombat is a journey of continuous improvement. Don't get discouraged by losses; instead, view them as learning opportunities. Practice consistently, learn from your mistakes, and most importantly, have fun unleashing those devastating special moves! You'll be dominating the arena in no time.
