How I Do My Press On Nails (Steps Included)
Going to the nail salon can be costly!
I started doing my nails at home 2 years ago and I haven't gone back since! I originally started doing Gel X nails which I loved because I got to be creative and they lasted a long time. I soon began to realize that I didn't want to do Gel X every time I did my nails because of the time it took and all of the supplies I needed.
I decided to give press-on nails a try. I did some research and experimentation to get the best results and longevity. I can confidently say that I have found the best way to do my nails that will last 3 months or more. (Steps Below)
🛍️✨I have all of the tools and products located in my Amazon Storefront under Nail Supplies!
💅 💕Here are the press-on prep steps:
1. Size the nails for each finger (make sure the press-on fits the entire nail (If it is too big you can file down the nail.)
2. Shape the nail if needed to make sure the press-on fits your cutitcle shape.
3. Use the nail file to roughen the inside of the press-on nail. (Alternatively, you can use the primer to do this as well)
💅💕Here are the application steps:
1. Using a lint-free cloth I wipe my nails with 70% alcohol.
2. I apply my cuticle remover and let it sit for the instructed time.
3. I gently push my cuticles back using my cuticle pusher. After you are done make sure to wipe off the left over residue with a lint-free cloth.
4. Use the nail buffer to buff all of your nails.
5. I apply the nail dehydrator and a about 60 seconds later I apply the nail primer.
6. After about 15- 30 seconds I apply a little nail glue on my nail and a little bit on the back of the press-on.
7. Make sure the press-on is positioned against the cuticle and apply at a 4-degree angle.
8. Hold the nail down firmly for 45 - 60 seconds.
❗️✨Make sure to avoid putting your hand in any water for 30 minutes to an hour after application. I apply lotion and cuticle oil after.
I hope this helps! 🥰💅🎉

Hey nail fam! So many of you asked about extending the life of your press-on nails, and trust me, I've tried it all! While my step-by-step guide covers the essentials, let's dive a little deeper into why certain steps are game-changers, especially when it comes to products like nail dehydrators and primers. These aren't just 'extra' steps; they're the secret sauce for those gorgeous, long-lasting manicures you see (like my iridescent blue press-on nails!). First, let's talk Nail Dehydrator. Think of it as a super-cleaner for your natural nail. Before applying any nail glue or primer, your nails can have natural oils, moisture, or residue from lotions. A good dehydrator (like the one I use!) zaps all that away, creating a perfectly dry, clean surface. This ensures your nail glue has the best possible contact, preventing lifting. Without it, even the best glue won't adhere properly, and your beautiful press-ons might pop off prematurely. I always make sure my nails look slightly chalky after applying it – that’s how I know it’s working! Next up, Nail Primer. This is often overlooked, but it's crucial, especially for an acid-free primer. While the dehydrator removes oils, the primer creates a sticky, almost tacky surface that acts like double-sided tape between your natural nail and the glue. It literally primes the nail to grab onto the adhesive. I've found that a thin, even coat makes a massive difference in bonding strength. Give it a few seconds to get slightly tacky before moving on. This combination of dehydrator and primer is what gives me that amazing 3+ month wear. Another key step that makes or breaks your press-on longevity is Buffing the Inside of the Press-On Nail. You might think, 'Why bother?' But hear me out! The inside of most press-on nails is smooth. A smooth surface doesn't give nail glue much to hold onto. By gently roughening the inside with a small nail file or even the edge of your nail buffer, you create tiny microscopic grooves. These grooves give the glue something to 'grip' onto, forming a much stronger mechanical bond. Don't go crazy and thin out the nail, just a few gentle swipes, especially around the cuticle area, will do the trick. And speaking of prep, remember the Cuticle Care! Using a good cuticle remover and gently pushing back your cuticles with a metal cuticle pusher (like the one in my kit!) isn't just for aesthetics. It ensures the press-on nail sits perfectly flush against your nail bed without lifting at the base, which is a common spot for water to seep in and cause issues. Make sure to wipe away any residue thoroughly with a lint-free cloth after pushing them back. Finally, Glue Application and Holding Time are paramount. A little nail glue on both your natural nail and the back of the press-on creates a stronger bond. And don't rush the hold! Those 45-60 seconds are critical for the glue to properly set and bond. I often press firmly but gently, making sure there are no air bubbles, which can also lead to premature lifting. By really focusing on these detailed steps – dehydrating, priming, buffing, and meticulous prep – you'll transform your press-on experience from a few days to several weeks, just like my stylish coffin-shaped press-on nails! It's all about building that strong foundation for a salon-quality look right from your couch. Happy nailing!
