Anyone else leave the snow for FL?!

Story time fam, grab a seat…

So…my husband is from Illinois, I was raised in Florida (shoutout to the FL girlies). We met when we were both living in Michigan and while we met in the summer, I moved in the winter, peak cold, peak gray, peak why do we live like this energy. I had just come from sunshine, driving a little two-door convertible, living seven minutes from the beach… straight into winter blizzards.

I used to complain about how cold it was, and he would laugh at me like I was being dramatic. Fast forward to his move to Arizona after 30 years of snow, you already know he didn’t know how to act. And now, to Florida living, Sunshine year-round (even in the rainy season), warm nights, palm trees…feeling like summer most of the year, every day kind of feels like a vacation. Theme parks, pool days, random flights to the Caribbean just because it’s a free weekend, like…he’s living living.

And listen, don’t come for me…snow states are great… for people who love winter, all seasons, and winter sports. We are not those people.

So every time we go back home and get snowed in, brushing snow off the car, wearing layers on layers, and bundling/unbundling the children to get in and out of the car…I gently remind him what life looks like now. Did I single-handedly upgrade his life? No. But did I strongly influence the direction? I’d like to think so. And I’m standing on that.

Are you winter vibes or year-round summer vibes?

Having experienced both climates myself, I can attest to how much warmth and sunshine can improve your day-to-day mood and overall quality of life. One thing that stands out when leaving snow behind is the freedom from winter-related hassles. No more scraping ice off your windshield in the frigid morning, no bulky layers that make even a quick trip to the store feel like a chore, and no bundling and unbundling kids repeatedly just to get in and out of the car. Instead, you enjoy light, breathable clothes and spontaneous outdoor plans without worrying about the weather. Florida’s year-round sunshine offers endless opportunities for outdoor recreation—from swimming in crystal-clear pools and visiting world-famous theme parks to strolling under swaying palm trees and enjoying mild, warm evenings perfect for barbecues or beach bonfires. These experiences contribute to a sense of daily vacation, uplifting your spirit and promoting a healthier lifestyle. The social aspect is also enhanced. In colder states, activities tend to be indoors during winter, but Florida’s warm climate encourages community engagement through festivals, outdoor dining, and water sports. This makes building social connections easier and adds vibrant energy to everyday life. However, it’s important to acknowledge that not everyone prefers the tropical climate. Those who appreciate winter sports and distinct seasons may find snow states more enjoyable. But for those tired of gray skies and freezing temperatures, Florida’s sunshine can feel like a breath of fresh air—literally and figuratively. For families moving from midwestern states or other snowy locales, adjusting to Florida’s rainy season can be a new experience but it’s generally mild compared to harsh winters. Plus, the chance to escape to the Caribbean and other nearby vacation spots on a whim adds exciting bonus perks to the Florida lifestyle. In summary, leaving snow behind for Florida means embracing comfort, convenience, and a lifestyle that feels like an ongoing celebration of summer. If you’re contemplating such a move, weigh your lifestyle preferences, and consider the benefits of sunshine on your physical and mental well-being. From personal experience, this change can truly upgrade your life’s quality.
