Beauty World’s Best Basil Rice? 👀

Basil King caught our attention before we even ordered. With all the bright pictures of their basil rice around the stall, we eventually gave in and had to give it a try. 😂

We ordered:

🐷 Basil Pork + Double Egg | $7.90

🐔 Basil Chicken + Double Egg | $7.90

Both at Level 2 (Normal Spicy) 🌶️

🌿 Basil Pork & Chicken

Both were really fragrant and savoury, with the basil flavour coming through nicely.

We went with Level 2 spice and found it very manageable. It wasn’t the kind of spice that overpowered everything else. Instead, it gave the meat and rice a nice kick and made every bite more appetising.

🍳 GET THE DOUBLE EGG

This might be the move.

Once you break those two yolks and let them flow into the rice… 🤤

The yolk adds a creamy richness and moisture to the otherwise plain rice, which pairs really well with the savoury basil meat and spice.

It almost gives you another dimension of flavour and texture with every spoonful.

And honestly, two yolks felt just right for the amount of rice.

🍢 Moo Ping ($1.90)

This was a pleasant surprise!

The Moo Ping was well-cooked and brought a completely different flavour from the basil meat, making it a really nice change between bites.

We’d definitely recommend adding a stick.

🥟 Spring Roll (2 for $0.90)

The spring rolls were decent and crispy, although probably the least memorable part of our meal.

We would’ve preferred a little more filling, but at just $0.90 for two, it’s an affordable side to add if you’re curious.

🌶️ How Spicy?

Basil King lets you choose your spice level, and we went with Level 2: Normal Spicy.

For us, it was very tolerable while still giving the dish enough heat to keep things interesting.

If you’re comfortable with spice, Level 2 is probably a good starting point.

💰 Value

At $7.90 for basil rice with double egg, we thought this was really affordable for a satisfying meal.

Add a Moo Ping and you’re still comfortably under $10.

🚆 Accessibility

Located at Beauty World Plaza, it’s relatively convenient to reach from Beauty World MRT, earning it a 3.5/5 from us.

🏆 FuudPicks Take

This is definitely one we’d come back for.

Fragrant basil meat, a good kick of spice, affordable prices and those runny egg yolks bringing everything together.

Both the pork and chicken were good enough that we’d have a hard time picking between them.

But there’s one thing we’re certain about…

Get the double egg. 🍳🍳

Now settle this for us:

... Read moreIf you’re a fan of Thai cuisine, especially iconic dishes like basil rice, Basil King at Beauty World Plaza is a gem worth visiting. From personal experience, the allure of their fragrant basil-infused pork and chicken dishes is irresistible – especially when paired with their signature double eggs. One thing I found especially delightful is how the runny egg yolks transform each spoonful. The rich creaminess blends seamlessly with the spicy-savoury basil meat, creating a balance of texture and flavor that feels both comforting and exciting. The customizable spice levels make it a hit for those who prefer moderate heat without overwhelming the palate, which I appreciated as someone who enjoys spice but still wants to savor the herbs and seasoning. Adding sides like Moo Ping skewers provides a tasty contrast with their juicy, grilled flavors, while the spring rolls offer a crunchy, budget-friendly snack, rounding out the meal perfectly. It’s great to see such variety without breaking the bank, with the whole meal coming in under $10. Accessibility is another plus—being just a short walk from Beauty World MRT means it’s easy to pop in for a casual lunch or dinner. The friendly, bustling atmosphere of Beauty World Plaza enhances the dining experience, making it a popular spot among locals looking for authentic Thai hawker fare. For anyone debating between basil pork or chicken, I’d say both are excellent choices and worth trying on different visits. The pork offers a richer depth of flavor, while the chicken feels lighter yet equally flavorful. Whichever you pick, don’t skip the double eggs – they truly elevate the dish. If you want to experience a Thai street food staple with great flavor, affordability, and accessibility, Basil King at Beauty World should definitely be on your food trail list.
