How to Import Vroid to Blender

You know that feeling when you've just finished creating an amazing character in VRoid Studio, and you're super excited to bring them to life in Blender for animations or renders? I've been there! It can be a bit tricky to get your VRoid models to play nicely with Blender, especially with all the different export and import options. But trust me, once you know the steps, it's actually quite straightforward. I'm going to share my personal workflow to help you seamlessly import your VRoid creations into Blender, just like I do for my own projects. First things first, getting your model out of VRoid Studio in the right format is key. When you're ready to export, head to the top right corner of VRoid Studio where you'll find the "Export as VRM" option. This is crucial because Blender doesn't natively understand VRoid's internal file format. You'll see various VRoid export options pop up. While you might also see options like "Upload to VRoid Hub" or "Export for 3D Printing," for Blender, VRM is your best friend. I usually check the polygon count and texture resolution here; sometimes, reducing them slightly can make your Blender experience smoother without losing too much quality. Once you're happy with the settings, save your .vrm file to a place you can easily find. Now, let's switch gears to Blender. Unlike some other 3D software, Blender doesn't have a built-in VRM importer. This means we need a little help from a VRM add-on for Blender. There are a few good ones out there, but the most popular and reliable is often the 'VRM Add-on for Blender' (or similar community-developed tools). You'll need to download it first. Once you have the .zip file, open Blender, go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons, and then click Install. Navigate to your downloaded .zip file, select it, and then make sure to enable the add-on by checking its box. You'll notice new options under File > Import. This 'VRM add-on for Blender interface' makes the next step possible! With the add-on installed and enabled, you're just one step away from seeing your VRoid model in Blender. Go to File > Import, and you should now see a VRM (.vrm) option. Click on it, browse to where you saved your .vrm file from VRoid Studio, and hit Import VRM. Voila! Your VRoid character should now appear in your Blender viewport. Don't be too surprised if the scale seems a bit off or if the materials look a little flat initially – that's totally normal. I usually scale my models up or down to fit my scene and spend a bit of time adjusting the shader nodes to get the materials looking just right. It's a small extra step, but it really makes your character shine. With these steps, you'll be able to bring all your VRoid creations into Blender for amazing renders and animations!
