Chicken Coop Making

Here’s phases of the making of my chicken coop. This build took us almost 3 weeks to finish. Now that it’s finish, I would like to show y’all. It has 2 separate departments for sick or mother hen, it also has a big open indoor run with ladder to the top sleeping quarters. The top have plenty of sleeping space with 2 sleeping bars and an additional shelf if they want to sleep higher. It also have a Dutch style door. We pretty much wanted to put full focus on the security of the chicks. I think we did a good job.

Thanks for reading and looking😊

... Read moreBuilding a chicken coop is not only about creating a shelter but also about ensuring the safety and comfort of your flock. From my experience, dedicating nearly three weeks to carefully designing and constructing the coop pays off in the long run. One key aspect that I found essential is having separate compartments, such as an isolated department for sick chickens or mother hens. This helps prevent the spread of illness and provides a calm space for hens during incubation. I also emphasized a large, open indoor run which encourages natural movement and exercise. Including a ladder to the upper sleeping area allows chickens to climb safely, while the dual sleeping bars and an extra elevated shelf provide ample space for rest, accommodating the birds' natural preferences to sleep at different heights. Security should be a top priority in any coop design. In my build, a Dutch-style door was implemented, combining ease of access with solid protection. This door type allows for quick feeding and cleaning without compromising the safety of the chickens against predators. Materials matter, too. For example, using robust roofing like SEALER ROOFING ensures durability and weatherproofing. Opting for measurements around 24 inches in height combined with quality roofing materials keeps the coop dry and well-ventilated. Lastly, patience is crucial. Take your time to plan and build carefully. Sharing this journey with fellow chicken keepers can offer new insights and encouragement. Remember, a well-constructed coop supports not only the chickens’ health and productivity but also enhances your overall homesteading experience.
