In my personal journey exploring Buddhist practices, I found that chanting the Kṣitigarbha Sutra offers not only spiritual solace but also a meaningful way to honor both ancestors and beings in suffering. Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva, known for his great vow "Until hell is empty, I vow not to become a Buddha," inspires deep compassion and commitment to alleviating suffering. Regular recitation of the Kṣitigarbha Sutra allows one to develop patience and dedication, helping cultivate peace of mind even amidst daily challenges. When I incorporated the sutra into my practice, I noticed a renewed sense of gratitude toward my parents and extended family, which reflects the sutra’s emphasis on repaying the 'fourfold kindness.' This feeling of connection extended beyond my family, motivating me to wish well for all beings trapped in hardships. Moreover, many practitioners share the hope that the merits gained from recitation can adorn the Buddha’s pure land, benefiting all sentient beings. This philosophy encourages a selfless mindset, focusing on collective liberation rather than individual gain. Using the teachings, I also found comfort in overcoming worries and apprehensions by focusing on the sutra's promise of blessing and protection. It was not just about spiritual rituals but also cultivating wisdom (prajna) to face life's inevitable difficulties with equanimity. For those interested in exploring Buddhist culture or seeking peace and blessings, regular engagement with the Kṣitigarbha Sutra and devotion to Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva can be a transformative experience. Integrating these teachings into daily life fosters not only personal growth but also meaningful connections with others through shared compassion and understanding.
