Backyard Update ☀️
I had a couple of inquiries about how the backyard was doing. It’s been a real struggle to do gardening these last couple of years, but I keep plugging along 🍃🌹🍃
Gardening in my backyard has been a journey filled with both challenges and rewarding moments. Over the last few years, the fluctuating weather patterns and common gardening setbacks have made it difficult to maintain a consistently flourishing garden. I've learned that persistence is key and that adapting to these conditions with patience and care makes a difference. One thing I've found helpful is closely monitoring the seasonal changes specific to the Portland, Oregon area, which can be unpredictable. Selecting plant varieties that are hardy and suited to the local climate can greatly improve success rates. Watering schedules also need adjustment depending on the season and weather conditions to prevent overwatering or drought stress. Investing time in soil health has been another critical factor. Composting kitchen scraps and using organic mulch helps to enrich the soil naturally. These steps not only improve plant growth but also support the ecosystem by attracting beneficial insects and microbes. While gardening has required a significant time commitment and effort, the personal satisfaction and the beauty of a green space right outside my home have been rewarding. Sharing these experiences helps me reflect on what works and what can be improved, motivating me to keep moving forward despite the obstacles.
