I’ve been seeing the “rotting” trend floating around social media lately—people lying in bed, doing absolutely nothing, just embracing the chaos and letting the world pass by. And while I’m a big advocate of rest as a form of self-care, I have to admit, sometimes it’s hard to practice what I preach.
I recently sprained my ankle, and let me tell you, as a stay-at-home mom, being stuck in bed is *tough*. There’s so much that needs to get done, and honestly, I feel like a lot of it won’t get done properly if I’m not the one doing it. I have routines for the kids, chores to manage, and a sense of control over the chaos that I hold onto daily.
But the reality is… I need to rest. I need to let go and let my body heal. It feels counterintuitive to everything I’m wired to do—stay active, stay on top of things, make sure everyone’s taken care of—but healing requires me to slow down, to let go of the things I can't control, and yes… to rot, just a little.
The “rotting” trend is about recognizing that we all need moments where we can step back and give ourselves the grace to just be. Whether you’re recovering from an injury or trying to avoid burnout, this kind of intentional rest is a form of self-preservation. It’s a reminder that healing, both physically and mentally, requires us to slow down and recharge. Maybe we should call it "Recharging". 🤪
