Candle maintenance is crucial to enjoying their ambiance and fragrance fully. One common mistake is candle tunneling, which occurs when the wax burns unevenly. To prevent this, always let your candle melt from corner to corner during the initial burns for at least two hours. This allows the wax to pool properly and ensures maximum usage. Another common issue is not trimming the wicks. Long wicks can create black smoke and generate soot, reducing the quality of your candle experience. Aiming to keep wicks trimmed to about 1/4 inch before each use can significantly enhance performance. When extinguishing candles, avoid blowing them out. Instead, use the lid to snuff them out; this minimizes smoke and keeps the area tidy while preserving the scent. Always ensure you're burning candles in open spaces, away from flammable objects like fabrics and plastics to prevent fire hazards. For storage, keeping candles in a cool place with lids on helps prevent dust and debris from entering the wax, prolonging their shelf life. Following these tips will not only improve your candle-burning experience but also ensure safety while enjoying your favorite scents.
