Unpopular Opinion:Being Busy Isnt A Flex. Thoughts
Unpopular opinion… but I’ve learned this the hard way:
Being busy isn’t always “productive.” Sometimes it’s protection.
We stay booked and exhausted because slowing down would mean:
• facing what we’re feeling
• making a decision we’ve been avoiding
• admitting we’re overwhelmed
• dealing with the thing we keep pushing to “later”
And I’m not judging—because I’ve done it too. 🤍
But peace doesn’t come from doing more… it comes from doing what matters.
Today I’m choosing one priority, not ten distractions.
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to fall into the trap of equating being busy with being productive. I’ve personally noticed that when my calendar is overloaded, it’s less about accomplishing my goals and more about avoiding uncomfortable feelings. Sometimes, busy schedules act as a shield from confronting emotions or decisions we’d rather postpone. For example, I’ve caught myself packing every hour with tasks to dodge the anxiety of facing a difficult conversation or making a life-changing decision. This constant activity can lead to exhaustion without real progress or satisfaction. What I’ve learned is that true productivity isn’t about doing more but about doing what truly matters. Prioritizing one meaningful task instead of juggling many distractions brings clarity and peace of mind. It also creates space for reflection and emotional processing, vital for long-term well-being. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, try asking yourself: am I busy because I’m productive, or because I’m avoiding something? Taking a moment to slow down and identify what's behind your busyness can be liberating. Shifting focus from a packed schedule to intentional actions allowed me to reclaim energy and find genuine accomplishment. It’s not about harsh self-judgment but compassionate awareness that helps us break the cycle of endless busyness. Embracing this mindset has made a significant difference in managing stress and improving overall happiness.
