How’s your college life with ADHD
I'm curious to see how others are holding up in college, especially the ones in a difficult course. I don't if it's just me, but I'm finding it really difficult.
I was in a hard course last semester but for the college they weren't strict with who they allowed in so it's hard not to think that I might be in over my head here when it seems like everyone else is doing so much better than me.
I think the increase in independence was hard to adjust to aswell. Like I never considered myself dependant on others but it was alot easier in secondary school when you had parents to remind you to clean, study and would wake you up if you overslept. I'm leaving out other things but overall self management is just a good deal more difficult here in college.
Just want to know how it was like others before and after getting medicated
College life can be particularly challenging for students with ADHD as they transition to a more independent environment. Struggles with self-management and organization can be overwhelming, especially with the increased coursework and the absence of parental support. Studies show that students with ADHD might experience difficulties that affect their academic performance and social interactions. Engaging in conversations about these experiences can be beneficial. Many find solace in sharing their struggles and triumphs with peers who understand. It’s important to discuss the effectiveness of medication, as some students report significant improvements in focus and productivity, while others may prefer alternative coping mechanisms. Resources like academic counseling and ADHD support groups can provide guidance, allowing students to explore various approaches tailored to their needs. Techniques like time-blocking, utilizing planners, and setting reminders can significantly enhance productivity. Moreover, creating a structured routine can help students develop better habits, ultimately easing the academic load of college life. Lastly, it's crucial to foster a supportive community. Whether through online forums or campus groups, connecting with others who face similar challenges can provide encouragement and practical advice, helping students with ADHD feel less isolated on their collegiate journey.
