First time deadlifting

Deadlifting such a heavy weight, like 700lbs, at just 19 years old is a significant milestone that can truly inspire anyone embarking on their fitness or powerlifting journey. From personal experience, the key elements that helped me improve my deadlift were proper form, consistent training, and mental focus. When starting out, I found that learning the correct technique—such as keeping my back straight, engaging the core, and driving through the heels—was essential to prevent injury and lift more efficiently. Additionally, tracking progress through apps like Liftoff can really boost motivation by enabling you to see where you rank among fellow lifters, set goals, and celebrate milestones. The “big pull” mentality encourages pushing past mental barriers, which can be the difference between missing and nailing a heavy lift. Wearing supportive gear like lifting straps or a belt also made a difference when approaching heavier plates. Recovery is just as important as training; ensuring adequate rest and nutrition helped me rebuild strength and avoid burnout. Lastly, surrounding yourself with a community in the gym, or online, who share your fitness and powerlifting passion can offer encouragement and valuable tips to keep progressing. Whether your goal is strength, fitness, or competition, the journey starts with that very first deadlift and builds from there.
