These vegetables are excellent choices for beginners because they are relatively easy to grow with proper care. Green peppers require well-draining soil and plenty of sunlight—aim for at least 6-8 hours per day. Onions thrive in loose soil with good airflow to prevent bulb rot. Brussels sprouts prefer cooler temperatures, making them a perfect choice for fall or early spring planting. When starting your veggie garden, it’s helpful to label each plant with the date and name to keep track of their growth stages, as I did on Week 1 Day 1, August 31st, 2025. Regular watering is crucial, but be careful not to overwater—letting the soil dry out slightly between watering sessions promotes healthy root development. To maximize the success of your garden, consider companion planting. For example, onions can deter pests for green peppers, creating a natural pest control system. Additionally, mulching around the plants helps retain moisture and suppress weeds. Gardening is not only about planting but also about observing changes day by day. Keeping a garden journal with photos and notes can help you understand each plant’s needs and progress. It’s also a wonderful way to share your authentic gardening experiences with others, helping and inspiring fellow home gardeners. Remember, patience and consistency are key. Vegetables like Brussels sprouts might take longer to mature, but the fresh, homegrown flavor is well worth the wait. Starting my veggies on Week 1 Day 1 marks the beginning of a nurturing process that promises fresh produce and personal satisfaction throughout the growing season.
