avoidant attachment 101

attachment styles are a buzz word in social media right now!

attachment styles surprisingly go all the way back to when we were babies! Attachment styles are the way primary caregivers interact with infants, which can affect relationships in adulthood.

There are 4 attachment styles and the I have is dismissive avoidant 🫠

Avoidant attachment is characterized by withdrawal from emotional closeness, denial of emotions, independence, and self-sufficiency.

Basically we fear intimate relationships because we truly believe we’re not worthy of love because something is inherent wrong with us.

This is NOT true, but that’s what our subconscious believes!

I’m working on healing my avoidant attachment style and moving towards a secure attachment 🤍

I hope this helps you on your journey!!

... Read moreAvoidant attachment significantly influences relationship dynamics. Individuals with this style often prioritize personal needs and may withdraw when intimacy feels overwhelming. This can lead to emotional distance, making it challenging to vocalize feelings or needs. Addressing these behaviors is essential for healthier relationships. One common characteristic is the tendency to sabotage relationships by finding faults in partners, which creates a cycle of emotional unavailability and insecurity. Understanding these patterns can pave the way for healing. Those who identify with avoidant attachment often believe they are unworthy of love. However, recognizing that this belief is a misconception is the first step toward fostering a secure attachment style. Engaging in self-reflection and seeking therapy can be beneficial in overcoming these ingrained patterns. Developing emotional awareness and gradually allowing vulnerability can help overcome the fear of intimacy. Building strong emotional connections requires effort, but it is a journey worth taking for healthier, more fulfilling relationships.
