ovulation pain explained & what you can do ✨
Sometimes I feel worse when I ovulate then when I’m on my period 💀
ovulation is known as our inner summer since estrogen levels are rising meaning we have more energy and are more social! Which I do feel that way but I also have way more anxiety 😂 plus I’ve been getting more ovulation pain in recent months because of my PCOS!
Ovulation pain is due to 2 things:
• Follicle stretching: As the egg develops in its follicle, the follicle can stretch the ovary's surface, which can cause pain
• Egg release
When the follicle ruptures and releases the egg, fluid or blood can irritate the lining of the abdomen, which can also cause pain.
For me, this can feel similar to period pain, like menstrual cramps but just on one side! Usually my left ovary 🫠
What I usually do is grab my heating pad and take it easy! If it’s really bad or interrupting my day, I’ll take Tylenol or something.
Let me know if you also experience this!!

Ovulation pain, also known as mittelschmerz, occurs when the mature egg is released from the ovary. It can feel similar to menstrual cramps, often localized on one side of the abdomen, typically where the ovary is releasing the egg. This discomfort is usually mild but can vary in intensity and duration, lasting from a few minutes to a couple of days. Women with conditions like PCOS may experience more intense ovulation pain due to hormonal imbalances. To alleviate discomfort, using a heating pad on the abdomen can provide relief. Taking a warm bath may also help relax the muscles, and over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can be effective. Tracking ovulation can be beneficial, especially for those trying to conceive or managing PCOS symptoms. Apps and calendars can assist in identifying patterns in pain and cycle. Furthermore, maintaining a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise and balanced nutrition can support hormonal health and potentially reduce ovulation pain over time.
