Pap smear prep 101
The downside of turning 21 🫠
Once you turn 21, you start to get paps every 3 years! I definitely don’t look forward to them but they are not extremely painful (in my opinion) they’re mostly uncomfortable!
The speculum doesn’t feel great and feels uncomfortable and the tool they use just lightly scraps your cervix. It doesn’t hurt but it doesn’t feel awesome. However, you can always say stop if you are in pain!!
paps can be nerve wracking & anxiety inducing but the best thing you can do is make yourself comfortable, breathe and before you know it, it’s over 🥹
Bringing a friend can help as well!! Once it’s done, get yourself a treat & do something fun!🤍
hope this helps xx

Preparing for your Pap smear is crucial for a smooth experience. Here’s how you can ensure your appointment is as comfortable as possible: 1. **Understanding the Procedure**: A Pap smear checks for cervical cancer and other conditions. During the exam, a gynecologist will insert a speculum to access the cervix and collect cell samples using a small brush. Knowing what happens can reduce anxiety. 2. **Timing Your Appointment**: Avoid scheduling your Pap smear during your menstrual period. If you’re spotting, inform your healthcare provider ahead of time. 3. **Pre-Appointment Tips**: At least two days before your test, refrain from sexual intercourse and avoid vaginal medications such as spermicidal foams, creams, or jellies. These can affect the results. 4. **Comfort Strategies**: Remember to breathe deeply, and consider bringing a friend for support. They can help distract you and provide comfort during the process. 5. **Post-Appointment Care**: Reward yourself after the test! Whether it's a favorite snack or a fun activity, treating yourself can help turn the experience into a positive one. Remember, communication is key. Don’t hesitate to discuss any concerns with your gynecologist!

I hate that they changed from yearly to 3 years, in the event a woman has issues that only these test can pick up and she goes in at 3 years and finds out she has cervical cancer or something that’s so much time that coulda been used for treatments and preventative care.
