Advice for BEFORE you get in a relationship 🫶
I met my boyfriend almost 5 years ago during Covid lockdown of 2020! I have learned SO much since then and we’ve had our ups and downs.
There are a few things I wish I knew before getting into this relationship.
1) I need to heal past traumas - being in a relationship does not heal those wounds from previous relationships and childhood!
2) I need to spend more time alone outside of a relationship - I have a habit of jumping from one situationship or relationship the next! I wish I had spent more time being single to have a better relationship with myself and feel more comfortable being alone.
3) I need to communicate - growing up I was not taught how to communicate. I would just shut down and cry which I carried into my relationship. I would avoid communicating so that wouldn’t happen which has created its own set of problems.
4) I have an avoidant attachment style - this was surprising for me to find out in my relationship! I have a hard time letting people love me and I tend to push away. I’m glad I know this now so I’m aware!
5) it’s not good to not disagree with your partner - it’s healthy to disagree with your partner and learn how to communicate through it! For a long time, me and my boyfriend never argued because I wasn’t communicating how I felt or wanted to have hard conversations.
I’m so glad I’ve learned all of this! What’s something you knew before dating your partner?🥹
