So, the other day somebody tried to be hurtful and called my hair “nappy.”
But honestly, that said way more about them than it did about me — because that word is so deeply rooted in racism.

so I straightened it, dyed it, manipulated it —
anything to make it look more “acceptable.”
I’ve been relaxed longer than I’ve been natural,
and eventually I hit a wall.
Either my hair was going to keep breaking… or I had to stop fighting it.
So I let it exist. I let it be.
The transition was rough — there were days I hated it,
days I thought it was ugly,
but over time I learned to love my hair back to life.
Now my routine is simple.
I barely refresh my color — maybe every three months,
and I always go for some version of red.
