... Read moreI'm so excited to finally share more of my art journey here on Lemon8! It's been a while, but getting back into creating has been incredibly fulfilling. Lately, I've been completely obsessed with the Y2K aesthetic, and it's been a huge inspiration for my latest original character drawing. You know that feeling when a particular style just clicks with you? That's exactly how I feel about 2000s fashion right now – it's bold, eclectic, and full of personality!
When I started sketching this character, I really wanted to capture that distinct Y2K girl vibe. Think iconic pieces like a pink cropped cardigan, a stylish purple bra peeking out, and classic denim shorts. I even added those cool black thigh-high socks for an extra touch of early 2000s flair. For her hair, I envisioned a vibrant green color – something playful and eye-catching that stands out. And yes, she's holding a cigarette with light green smoke swirling around; it's a small detail that adds to her edgy, confident persona, set against a fun notebook paper background for that casual sketch feel.
Developing original characters is one of my favorite parts of the art process. It's like bringing a little piece of your imagination to life. For me, it starts with an idea – maybe a mood, a color palette, or a fashion trend like Y2K. Then I think about their personality. Is she spunky? Mysterious? What kind of clothes would she wear? What accessories would complete her look? I love playing with different hairstyles, like the spiky hair you sometimes see, or adding unique elements like a low-cut top, a cool belt, fishnet stockings, and even furry boots for that playful edge. Every detail helps tell their story.
If you're also an artist on Lemon8 looking to create your own Y2K-inspired original characters, my biggest tip is to dive deep into reference photos! Look at old magazines, music videos, and fashion from that era. Pay attention to silhouettes, textures, and color combinations. Don't be afraid to mix and match elements to make it truly your own. For instance, combining something edgy with something sweet is very Y2K. And remember, Lemon8 is such a fantastic platform for sharing your work and connecting with fellow artists. I've found so much inspiration just scrolling through other people's Lemon8 drawings.
I'd love to hear what about this drawing catches your eye! Is it the outfit, the hair, or just the overall Y2K aesthetic? Share your thoughts in the comments!
