I've always loved imagining characters in different settings, and bringing Boothill into a contemporary world was such a delightful creative challenge! When I started brainstorming this project, the main goal was to envision a 'human Boothill' – what would he look like without his cybernetic enhancements, living an everyday life? I spent a lot of time thinking about his traits and how they'd translate. For his appearance, I decided to give him a distinctive dark and light hair combination, a subtle nod to his original design but softened for a casual, modern vibe. You can spot him in one of the close-up sketches with a slightly pouty yet charming expression, truly capturing his unique personality even when he's just in casual attire. It was important to me that he still felt recognizably *Boothill*, just in a different skin, blending seamlessly into a modern setting. Then came the fun part: exploring 'young Boothill'! It's always a treat to imagine what our favorite characters were like in their formative years. I pictured him as a vibrant, energetic kid, full of life and perhaps a little mischievous. In the sketches, you'll see him walking alongside a younger version of my original character (OC), both happily sporting their backpacks, ready for whatever adventure comes their way. I focused on making their youthful bond feel genuine and sweet, capturing those innocent moments of friendship or early connection. It’s fascinating to speculate on how their personalities might develop into the characters we know and love, but through a modern lens. These fanart pieces were an exploration of contrasts – the taller, more mature versions of Boothill and my OC, and their younger, shorter selves, all enjoying simple moments together, perhaps going to school or just hanging out. From their casual outfits to their varying expressions – a wide smile from young Boothill, a gentle smile from young OC, and that characteristic pout from older Boothill – every detail was crafted to tell a story within this modern AU. I really tried to infuse a sense of slice-of-life charm into these modern AU sketches. Creating fanart like this, especially of beloved characters like Boothill, allows for so much artistic freedom and personal interpretation. It’s incredibly rewarding to bring these alternative versions of characters to life, making them relatable in a whole new context. I hope you enjoy seeing my take on a human and young Boothill in a modern AU setting with my original character as much as I enjoyed drawing them! Don't forget to share your thoughts in the comments – I love hearing what you think!
