... Read moreHey everyone! Since I'm gearing up for Art Fight 2025, I wanted to share a bit more about how I approach this awesome annual event and maybe give some tips for those looking to jump in or improve their game. It's such a blast, and honestly, the best way to get free art of your original characters while making new artist friends!
If you're new to Art Fight or just curious, it's essentially a massive art trade game where you 'attack' other users by drawing their characters, and in return, they might 'revenge' you back! You can find it easily on the web or through their dedicated 'art fight app' – super convenient for keeping up with attacks and checking out profiles on the go. My biggest tip for beginners? Don't be shy! Just dive in and draw what inspires you. There's no pressure to be a professional; it's all about participation and fun.
One of the coolest parts for me is seeing the sheer variety of characters. My own collection this year includes everything from detailed human OCs like my punk-rock inspired Spider-Man (yes, he's got a specific 'height', 'facial and ear piercings', and even a 'barcode on the back of his neck'!) to unique 'feral' creatures, 'anthro' designs, and even some fantastical 'monster' types. I love sketching out my 'character reference sheets' with all the little details, knowing that someone might pick them to draw. When you’re creating your own characters, think about what makes them stand out. Do they have 'dreadlocks', 'animal ears', or a 'long, striped tail' like some of my creatures? Or maybe they're a sleek 'mech', a quirky 'worm' design, or even a 'blue and white furry creature' with 'large eyes' and a 'distinctive back pattern' like Flossy? Having clear refs helps other artists bring your vision to life. You can even explore different categories like 'human', 'feral', and 'anthro' on the Art Fight site to see what's popular and get ideas.
For those of you looking for inspiration or specific artists, the platform lets you browse by team, character type, or even search for users. You can discover incredible talent, much like how one might seek out 'nfwstudios' for amazing art. It’s a great way to find new styles and creative approaches, whether you’re into 'pokemon feral f rom' (meaning, fan-made creature designs often with unique twists, like my 'fox-like characters' with 'star patterns'!) or completely original concepts, perhaps even "feral navi" inspired alien-like designs. Don't forget to check out profiles like mine on 'TEAM FOSSILS' for a diverse range of characters, including 'Kintoki Sakata Kintaro/Venom' with his 'Japanese Street' style.
My personal strategy? Like I mentioned in my post, I 'prioritize revenge'! It’s super satisfying to give back to artists who’ve taken the time to draw my characters. I usually try to match the effort and style of the incoming attack, making it a fun challenge. But whether you're revenging or just doing friendly fire, remember to have fun and engage with the community. It's all about celebrating art and creativity together. The Art Fight experience is truly unique, fostering creativity and connection. Hope to see you on Team Fossils – let the art battles begin!
