Visit the Phaya Tai Palace
I've been here twice, but I've just walked outside and sipped a drink with mushroom soup at Narasingha Coffee Shop, so I'm here to visit the inside with a lecture and say I'm too impressed to think 🤍
At first I thought I just liked the antiquity of the building, but when I heard the story, it felt like I was walking back in time to really experience history. Every room has interesting details, artwork, mechanics, and architecture that combine Western influences with Thai and Asian beliefs.
A big favorite is the interior. Whether it is Art Nouveau motifs on the ceiling that insert Thai auspicious flowers and fruits such as pomegranates and roses, including bat patterns, which are auspicious animals according to the Chinese motto, each room also uses a color that conveys birthdays according to past beliefs. And there is also a Putto (Little Boy in Western Art) image holding a musical instrument, strum, color, hit, blow, which corresponds to the Thai instrument assortment. It is a small detail that makes the more fun to walk.
The exterior of the building is equally beautiful. With Romanesque Revival architecture that blends Gothic Revival gracefully, the building looks very unique (if you remember correctly).
Despite the restoration, the vibe of being both a hotel and a former hospital survives - the atmosphere, space and details of the building - making it feel like touching the story of the people who actually used the place.

Personally, it is worth the beauty of the building, the knowledge gained, and the historical stories hidden in every corner. Anyone who likes architecture, old buildings, art, or history suggests to try it once.
