This Ain’t A Job, It’s A Lore Arc 🙂‍↔️

What does it take being in an old-school industry as one of the newer gens? Excluding Gen Alpha lah 💀

For one, the culture shock is CRAZY ngl. We’re the generation raised in the digital era. Me personally, born in 1997. Basically the first batch of Gen Z. Grew up vibin’ between Millennials and Gen Z, so stepping into the towing industry was like entering a whole different timeline fr.

At first I thought, “wah nice, got work-life balance ah.” Yeah… no 💀 Reality humbled me REAL quick.

Most of the work is independent, which honestly isn’t even the problem. It’s the loneliness that hits different. Helping stranded road users, handling recoveries alone, constantly being professional no matter how drained you are mentally… that part really eats at you slowly. People who work solo will understand this type of mental strain fr.

And when you need help on-site? Bro… there’s basically nobody 😭 Unless you start spam calling your colleagues just to kena roasted for disturbing them 💀 Best option? Call boss and pray he picks up with recovery advice.

Then there’s the industry culture itself. If you soft, people WILL test you. Some will purposely pressure you just to see whether you can tahan or not. Old-school work ethic type beat. Toxic? Maybe. Reality? Also yes.

The focus needed for this job is insane too. One small mistake and you’re literally cooked fr. Every tow, every recovery, every hookup, you gotta stay locked in 24/7. Cannot afford to blur. The risk ain’t worth the damage payments 😭

Then come the long hours. You spend more time working than actually living your own life. Let that sink in. No basic pay either, fully 50/50 commission. Sounds shiok until demand drops and suddenly jobs become dry af.

But at the end of the day, it’s still honest halal work. Respectable work too.

I just feel like most Gen Zs probably won’t survive long here because the culture is still stuck like 20-30 years back. Unless you can adapt, tahan pressure, and stay mentally strong… maybe you actually got a shot.

Not everybody can survive this line fr 😭💀

I just happened to grow up around mixed generations from young and worked since 14. So now I’m out here aura farming every single day just to tahan this industry 🙂‍↔️💯

... Read moreWorking in a traditionally old-school industry like towing can feel like stepping into a totally different world, especially for those of us raised in the digital age. Beyond the obvious technical challenges, the emotional and mental demands are something many don’t talk about. From my own experience, the solitude during recovery tasks is more draining than I expected. Being alone on-site means you’re not just physically handling the job but also managing the weight of responsibility without immediate support. It helps to build some mental routines or even quick on-the-go meditation techniques to stay calm and focused. The old-school mindset in the towing world often brings with it a tough, no-nonsense work culture. This can feel harsh and even toxic to newer generations who value open communication and emotional intelligence. However, learning to navigate and balance this culture while maintaining your own mental well-being is key. I found that setting small personal boundaries and finding allies within the industry helped me survive the pressure tests from colleagues. It’s about knowing when to stand your ground and when to adapt. Regarding the 50/50 commission structure, it might look great when business is booming, but it's crucial to prepare for the dry spells. Personally, I started budgeting aggressively and diversifying my skills in related automotive services. This way, I mitigate risks when towing calls slow down. It’s also a reminder to take every job seriously since one mistake can mean a costly payout; being meticulous and staying vigilant isn’t just good practice—it's survival. The culture shock isn’t just about tasks but also about lifestyle. Long hours and working more than you live can be exhausting, but finding ways to decompress outside of work is non-negotiable. Simple things like sharing your work stories with friends, engaging in hobbies, or even following social media communities of solo workers in the industry can help combat loneliness. Lastly, working in a halal and honest trade like towing gives a sense of pride and respect. Despite the hardships, knowing that you’re providing a vital, ethical service to people in distress is rewarding. If you’re young and stepping into such an industry, remember that mental toughness, adaptability, and a positive mindset can set you apart and help you carve out your own success story in this challenging yet honorable line of work.
