TSUKIJI FISH MARKET

Tsukiji

... Read moreMy recent trip to Tsukiji Fish Market was an unforgettable culinary journey, and I just had to share all the delicious finds that made my experience so special. If you're heading to Tokyo, this iconic market is a must-visit for any food lover, especially if you're craving incredible seafood and unique Japanese treats. First off, you absolutely cannot miss the grilled seafood skewers! As soon as I stepped into the outer market, the aroma of sizzling seafood drew me in. I tried some perfectly cooked grilled scallops served right in their shell – they were so tender and sweet, with just a hint of char. There were also fantastic eel skewers (unagi) glazed with a sweet and savory sauce, absolutely melt-in-your-mouth. Walking through the seafood stalls, you'll find an incredible variety, so don't be shy to try different options. I even spotted some vendors grilling up other fresh seafood like shrimp and crab legs, all seasoned simply to let the natural flavors shine. Another highlight was definitely the wagyu skewers with uni. Yes, you heard that right – premium wagyu beef topped with creamy sea urchin! The wagyu skewer Tsukiji Market offers is incredibly tender and rich, and the uni adds a luxurious, briny sweetness that surprisingly complements the beef perfectly. It’s a truly indulgent bite that I highly recommend. Speaking of fresh, the fresh tuna sashimi Tsukiji is unparalleled. I had a platter that showcased different cuts of tuna, each more vibrant and buttery than the last. You can taste the quality and freshness in every delicate slice. If you're a tuna lover, this is the place to be. Beyond just sashimi, I also savored a beautiful uni bowl piled high with creamy sea urchin over rice, and even tried some unique uni pasta at one of the cozy eateries – a dish I wouldn't have expected but absolutely loved! Don't forget to explore some of the other iconic Tsukiji snacks. The sweet and fluffy tamagoyaki skewer (Japanese rolled omelet) is a classic; you'll find stalls selling it warm on a stick, offering both sweet and savory versions. It’s a delightful, comforting bite. And for something refreshing, look for the fresh fruit stalls. I picked up a slice of incredibly sweet cantaloupe and some adorable strawberry & mango daifuku (mochi filled with fruit and red bean paste), which were perfect palate cleansers after all the savory delights. My top tips for visiting Tsukiji: Go early: The market gets busy, and some popular items can sell out. Aim for a morning visit. Bring cash: While some vendors accept cards, many smaller stalls are cash-only. Wander and explore: Don't stick to just one alley. There are so many hidden gems and delicious finds throughout the outer market. Try a little bit of everything: Sample different skewers, sashimi, and sweets. That's the beauty of Tsukiji! Tsukiji Fish Market truly is a foodie's dream, offering an amazing array of fresh seafood and Japanese delicacies. I hope my experience helps you plan your own delicious adventure there!
