When I moved to Las Vegas, I had to give a lot of them up. And Vegas gets over 100• so it has not been easy getting these plants to make it out here but I won’t stop trying! 😍💪🏽

It was about time for a new round of plants. So I headed to Star Nursery and chose some plants that spoke to me. This is what came home with me today!

... Read moreHaving moved to the sizzling heat of Las Vegas, where temperatures often soar above 100°F, finding plants that thrive can be quite challenging. From my experience, the key to gardening successfully in such an arid climate is selecting species that can tolerate heat and withstand dry conditions. For instance, succulents like the Dwarf Jade Plant and Kalanchoe are not only beautiful but also resilient, requiring minimal watering and care. One standout favorite is the Purple Star Flower—its vibrant blooms bring a splash of color, and I find it adapts well to the intense sun if provided some afternoon shade. Similarly, the Variegated Purple Heart is a hardy ground cover that thrives with little fuss, making it a perfect companion plant. Visiting a local nursery like Star Nursery allows you to connect with plants suited for your environment. Beyond aesthetics, think about how each plant fits your lifestyle; some, like the Lavender I picked up, offer soothing scents and can even repel pests naturally. Incorporating a variety of plants such as the Sparklette Bells and Archangel White Angelonia provides texture and diversity, which keeps your garden visually interesting. For those moving to warmer zones or attempting gardening in hotter weather, embracing drought-tolerant plants is essential. This strategy not only conserves water but also ensures your greenery flourishes despite harsh conditions. Lastly, don’t be discouraged by past gardening setbacks caused by climate changes—persistence and learning about your plants’ needs can lead to a thriving personal oasis. What plants are you planning to add to your collection? I'd love to hear your tips for gardening in challenging climates!
