Home Bagel Recipe

👩🏻

Occasion & Servings:4

Ingredients;

1 cup of self rising flour

1 cup low fat Greek yogurt

1 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder

1 teaspoon of salt

Detailed Steps:

Combine all ingredients and mix until a dough forms. Once the dough reaches a soft, pliable consistency, lightly flour your hands and work surface. Roll the dough out and shape it into a ball. Divide the dough into four equal portions.

Roll each portion into a log, then shape into a bagel by connecting the ends.

Additional Tips/Notes:

I used an egg wash to help the sesame seeds and everything but the salt seasoning stick evenly to the surface.

Preheat your oven to 375°F.

Bake the bagels for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown.

Incorporating ingredients like low-fat Greek yogurt not only boosts the protein content but also adds moisture and a slight tang, enhancing the overall flavor and texture. Using self-rising flour helps the dough to rise without the need for yeast, significantly simplifying the preparation while still achieving that classic bagel chewiness. For those looking to increase protein intake further, consider adding mix-ins such as chia seeds, flaxseeds, or even whey protein powder to the dough. These additions will improve nutritional value while maintaining the bagel’s delightful texture. Moreover, topping the bagels with seeds like sesame, poppy, or everything bagel seasoning after an egg wash helps to create an appealing crust and additional flavor layers. Baking at 375°F for 20–25 minutes ensures the bagels are cooked through and golden brown on the outside, offering a perfect balance of crispiness and softness inside. These homemade protein bagels provide an excellent snack or meal option that supports muscle maintenance and satiety without excessive calories or fat. For optimal results, serving the bagels fresh from the oven or lightly toasted allows you to enjoy the best texture and taste. Pair with healthy spreads such as avocado, nut butters, or low-fat cream cheese to create a balanced meal. Overall, this recipe is a great choice for anyone seeking an easy, nutritious, and delicious homemade bagel that aligns with a high-protein diet and healthy lifestyle goals.
